Team Wales selection Charter

Qualification System

Our Qualification System uses a yearly average of your Coach Rating. We will calculate this by taking your Coach Rating at specified intervals and averaging these over the course of the Qualifying Period. This information will be presented in a Leaderboard that will be shared on the Welsh Blood Bowl discord server after each update.

Squad Selection

The data source for your Coach Rating is the Global ELO Coach Rating taken from the Danish Global Ranking System: https://bloodbowl.dk/coach-rating/.

The Qualifying Period is the calendar year prior to the Eurobowl being selected for. For example, 2025 is the Qualifying Period for the 2026 Eurobowl.

Each Qualifying Period starts on the 1st January and ends on 31st December.

Each coach’s Global ELO Coach Rating will be taken from the first Global ELO update following the end of March, June, September and December and the average of these four values will determine the coach’s qualifying score. If a new or returning coach (inactive for greater than 12 months) has no data returned for part of the calendar year due to inactivity the prior quarters will be backfilled with a 150 rating when they become active.

In order to qualify for the Squad you must have played a minimum of three NAF tournaments during the Qualifying Period. In special cases the Captain can grant exemption from this rule.

The top ten Coaches on the Leaderboard at the end of the Qualifying Period will be offered a spot in the Team Wales Squad for the next Eurobowl. If a coach declines a spot on the Squad their spot will be offered to the next person on the Leaderboard. Once ten Coaches have accepted their spot those ten Coaches will elect a Captain. The Captain will select two Coaches to fill the last two spots on the Squad. These can be any Coaches that have met the Squad Selection criteria. These twelve Coaches form the Team Wales Squad.

The Captain will be responsible for selecting the final eight man Eurobowl Team from the Squad of twelve with the four unselected Coaches forming the Dragons, Wales official Europen team. The Dragons will select their own Captain from their team.

If a Squad member drops out of the Squad before registration the Captain will select a replacement from candidates that meet the Squad Selection criteria. If a member of the registered Eurobowl Team drops from the squad after registration the Captain will select someone from the Dragons Team to replace them. The remaining Dragons will select a new team member and elect a new Dragons Captain if required.

The Captain has the right to remove a person from the Squad but this can only be done by a unanimous vote from the rest of the Squad. Subject to the approval of the person being removed, this decision will be shared with the Welsh Blood Bowl community and their spot is filled by the next person on the Leaderboard.

Welsh Qualification

Players are eligible to play for Wales if they meet any of the following criteria:

  • They were born in Wales
  • Their biological mother or father were born in Wales
  • Their biological grandmother or grandfather were born in Wales
  • They have lived continuously in Wales for at least two years prior to the start of the Eurobowl
  • They have already represented Wales at an international Blood Bowl event.

Race Nominations

Once the rules pack for the event has been confirmed every Coach that has been selected as part of the squad will select three races by an agreed deadline set by the Captain. These nominations will be used by the Captain to inform the Captains picks for the squad and the final Eurobowl Team composition.

A Coach is expected to have played at least six practice or tournament games with their nominated races prior to registration.

Team Shirts

Every Squad member will be expected to purchase team shirts to wear when representing Wales at the event. Team shirts will be locked in for an international cycle (the four years spanning three Eurobowls and a World Cup) and will be refreshed following the World Cup. This is to reduce the requirement to purchase new shirts for every event.
